  1. Allowing ample time during the day is a key fundamental many people have difficulties with. Bad time management can lead to stress. Therefore, it is vital to have a good relationship with time so that you do not become a victim to any sort of stress factors.

  2. This was interesting to relate time to a relationship. I have never looked at it from this angle, and now that I have, I realize I don’t have a good one either. One of my newer struggles is not having enough time to learn what I need to before a test and not knowing how to exactly study. I have the same issue of not being able to completely live in the present because I’m constantly worrying about something in the future or sulking about something in the past. I believe if I take the time to schedule things out, even the little things it will be benefical to my overal productivity.

  3. I can relate to this video because procrastination has always been one of my biggest set backs. I put assignments off to make time for other things and that lack of balance leads to stress that could have been easily avoided. It made me question why I keep these habits when I know the consequences. This video made me realize that I need to prioritize and make the most out of my time, so that I can enjoy the time with others without constantly having all the things I have to do on my mind.

  4. This video is so spot on with it’s content. It is so important to a have a good relationship with time and people often forget to make it a priority. I have realized that for my own benefit I need to work on developing a better relationship with time so that I am not always rushing and stressed out when I leave my house. Being on time can really change the way my entire day goes.

  5. I find it funny that I realized that I was doing the same thing as the person in the video about a day or too ago. I was playing basketball and thought about all of the homework that I had for the weekend. After realizing that I was worrying too much, I focused back on playing and had a good time. I think that if I didn’t catch myself, I would have definitely had a less enjoyable experience. Life is all about living it to the fullest, and that can only be achieved while thinking in the present, amongst other things.

  6. I liked how this video compared our relationship with time with just normal relationships. It showed the importance of planning dates, for example. I am so often behind on the things that I need to do that planning dates will be very helpful to stay on top of things.

  7. I honestly couldn’t agree more with the importance of planning times out to do things. A few weeks ago, I noticed how I would become very stressed out with all the tasks I have to do; I would generally go with the flow of what came next in my day. One of my roommates suggested to sit down and really plan out my week, and I did see how efficient I was with my days. My stress level went down a lot more, and I felt like I was doing all I could do with what I was given.

  8. It’s definitely interesting to consider myself having a “relationship” with time. And in this case I’ve been doing a horrible job. I am constantly running late to things, rushing, and I’m always feeling like I’m falling behind. I think Lauren brought up some really good points in this video regarding setting up “dates” with time. I think that my life would get much easier if I were to schedule things more frequently and if I were to allow myself to live in the present!

    1. I agree that everyone has a relationship with time and that it definitely is one of, if not THE most important relationship in your life. I believe that it is extremely important not to squander time, as your life is basically made up of time. The time spent doing the things you love, and the times spent putting in work towards your dreams and goals are what shape your life, and when you lose the ability to manage your own time, you begin losing to it. You start to fall behind in schedule, and constantly are bombarded with thoughts of the things that you need to get to, rather than the things you are doing. This video was a good reality check to my own status of time management and I do believe I need to straighten mine out starting today.

  9. The topic of this video made me think about the huge impact that procrastination has on my life. If I haven’t yet finished all of my work and I go to take a nap, all I do after I wake up is feel bad for using my time to do something that I didn’t need to do over something that I have to do. If I just got all of my assignments out of the way beforehand I would be able to enjoy the activities that I want to do even more. Planning my time is a big help because I know all of the things that I need to do that day and that keeps me on top of my work instead of waiting until the last minute. Also, I noticed that the work that I do when I’m rushed is no where near the quality of work that I could do if I planned ahead.

  10. I didn’t know I have been in a relationship with time for this long. For the most part of my day, I do my school work as I remember them. Which mean I don’t really live in the present and time is controlling me. I spend way too much time convincing myself I have enough time to do everything on time. Which is not true. I knew that and I thought it was okay. But I am going to try this and see how I feel about it.

  11. This video is very relatable for me. I notice I’m constantly overwhelmed with rushing to places or rushing to get things done. This takes me away from living in the present and enjoying the things I like to do. Doing mandatory work last minute takes away from sleep and other things I enjoy doing; it also adds to stress. Having a bad relationship with time is definitely not fair to myself. After watching this video I’m going to be more aware of time and try to get tasks done before hand.

  12. Relationships with Time
Time management is critical for an individual to develop and to be in control of. Controlling time will make a person’s life less stressful and allow enjoyment of the time. Planning dates ahead can make you prepared for something and have a better relationship with your time. Managing your time will have you living in the present instead of worrying about things that have happened or may happen. Controlling your time at college whether it be hanging out with friends or studying for a test is a choice an individual has to make on how they manage their time. The video was great at explaining the positive effects that can come from a good relationship with time.

  13. I found this video to be helpful because I can relate to the problems Lauren used to have with time and how it controlled her. I am going to take action and start to plan things out in order to not fall behind and even get ahead sometimes. Like she said, even if i don’t have something due the next day, planning ahead and taking the time to do something will help in many ways including relieving panic and stress. Although most people think they don’t have a relationship with time, It is important to understand that time is a major relationship that we deal with every single day. Get on top of it or it will control you.

  14. I can relate to this video because i do fight time. I’m never actually busy I mostly waste time without realizing it. I tend to procrastinate. I need to work on howI spend my time and how to not procrastinate.

  15. I can relate this video so much. I have such poor time management skills with everything from hanging out with friends and doing homework and I often let time get away from me. As someone with time management issues I thought this video was very helpful in providing ways in which I could approach the issue and possibly improve my time management. This was made even better with the personal example that Lauren provided.

  16. I now understand just how much I rush through life instead of actually taking the time to really enjoy life. I know that personally I get caught up in everyday activities, and an adjustment would probably provide me with not just a better study flow but teach me how to be present like the video discusses. I am going to try and slow down, adjust, and plan ahead so I can worry less and enjoy more.

  17. I really related to this video because I am always thinking about what I have to do because I don’t do my work until the last minute. It makes it very difficult for me to enjoy time with my friends I think I will try to set up times to get my work done from now on so I longer have to worry about what needs to get done.

  18. Time management is key to leading a healthy life but life is not always going to go according to plan. No one will ever have total control over their time because life being what it is can be very unpredictable. I do agree however that time can be managed only until a certain point. Events and situations can make one alter and adapt their schedules to some degree.

  19. The idea that hit me the hardest in the video was the idea of living in the present and not letting anything else that you have to do affect what you are doing in the present. Even before college I was always in a state of thinking about what I needed to do next and what assignment is due when. Not that I would procrastinate on things but I would be constantly having work to do. So the idea of setting a certain time for one thing and one thing only so that you can focus on other things when you’re living in the moment is a new concept to me.

  20. This video definitely hit me hard, because it brought up the realization of how time takes advantage of me rather than the other way around. Before watching this video, I thought I was in charge of time, but procrastinations and lack of scheduling made me realize I was truly wasting time and not using time to benefit my life. I need to start managing time in a better fashion so that I can enjoy the activities/events that are more important in my life without having to dwell on the fact that I have other things to finish. This will lead to a much more efficient and satisfying life.

  21. I mostly agree, when I am not in control of time and putting everything off I feel like I am on a ticking bomb. When she started talking about living in the moment I noticed that I do that a lot, I can be out with friends enjoying myself but in the back of my mind thinking about all of the school work and task I have to do. I disagree with some of the tips, making a date does not always work because things can come and then I may have to cancel one day and then it seems like I fall right back into the pattern of pushing everything back until the last minute again.

  22. I never saw myself as “being in a relationship with time,” but after watching the video I can actually see that I am in a relationship with time. Time is controlling my life, and I really had to step back and realize that. I am a big procrastinator, and I have been trying to stop, but when you have been doing it for so long it’s hard to step away from your old ways. I will probably take Lauren’s advice with trying to take control with time. It won’t be easy and will take time, but in the end it will be so nice to have freedom. I really enjoyed this video and hearing that Lauren did conquer time and hopefully I will too.

  23. This is a very good motivational video to use time wisely, although the concept of controlling your time and setting time apart to get your important work done is something that I have been hearing my entire life. I have never thought about having a relationship with time, because I really do not think it is a very good analogy. Either way, this video makes some good points about taking control of your time and being proactive in order to have free time later and a less stressed out lifestyle.

  24. Understanding how to use your time can play a big role in creating an individual who is successful in life. By using your time wisely, it can allow you to work more efficiently and productive while still being in the moment. Additionally, taking advantage of being in the moment can also play a role in the illusion of time. Time always seems to go by quicker when you are having fun and as a result being aware of yourself can help one from losing track of time.

  25. She is correct, if you allow time to control you one can not accomplish maximum productivity. I have started to plane out my time and I have seen my grades get better and my stress level has gone down as well. I made my self a schedule and I have seen it pay off. Being productive is key if you want to be successful at anything you want to do

  26. I agree that if you’re not in control of time, your life becomes uncontrollably unsatisfying. It’s a terrible feeling to know that you can’t even enjoy the end of a Saturday night because you remembered all of that built up homework that reserved your time.

  27. This video is very personal to me because I realize that I defiantly struggle with time management. I always feel like I’m busy doing something. I stay up late, wake up early, and I always have something to do. But very recently, I was talking to a friend who asked me what I do in my free time, and my initial response was, “free time?” I thought never have time to myself to do the things that I enjoy, and it really bothered me. Then I started thinking about what I am doing that takes up so much time, and I realized that I’m not actually doing all that much. The time that I put into my homework doesn’t properly correlate with the amount of homework I have. I honestly don’t know where my time goes. I really need to take a look at what I do all day. I need to plan out when I will do my homework, when I will go out with friends, and I should take more care in not letting time control me.

  28. Time management is something that the majority of individuals struggle with, myself included. When you’re in control of time it is both physically and mentally beneficial to oneself. Physically, people who are managing their time well tend to get more sleep which leads to overall healthier individuals. Mentally, stress is not nearly as big of a factor on someone when they’re ahead of the game and on top of their assignments. The benefits gained from controlling ones relationship with time are so apparent and great it doesn’t make sense why anyone wouldn’t want to control their own relationship with time.

  29. I agree and relate with this video. Time is sort of an abstract and indefinite thing to people, yet it has such a major influence in our life. It seems to control many of our lives and limit many of us; a lot of this has to do with a lack of time management. My senior year of high school I found myself struggling and battling with time quite often. Between sports, my heavy school load, wanting to hang out with friends, and much more, I seemed to always be doing something. Some of them were voluntary and fun to me, however I was always stressing about something I had to do in the future. It caused a lot of stress and ruined the fun in life for me. So to try and fix this, when I came to college I managed my time. I planned out my day, setting aside adequate time for everything I needed to do. I found that I became more productive and efficient; I also found myself having more fun in each task that I did. I did not stress about something I would be doing later on in the present. I started feeling like I was in control of my life more.

  30. I agree that time is controlling my life instead of me controlling my time. I find that during class, the hardest part of not using my phone isn’t that I can check my texts, but the fact that I cannot check the time. I know I could just wear a watch, but that not the point. The point is that I am conflicted internally if I am unable to check the time. I worry about almost everything when I do not know what time is because I feel like I have places I need to be and so many things to do. Today, society is always busy and we are letting time control us instead of use our time the way we want.

  31. This video relates to me as well. I am always pushing off things that I may not want to do but have to do so I can do the things I actually enjoy. I definitely feel like it puts some added and unneeded pressure on my life. Setting out time beforehand is something I will try to do now in attempt to be more organized.

  32. I always find myself struggling to find time. Like many people I am always in a rush. The hardest part about time planning is the fact that i constantly look at the time. I know it does not make any since, but I check the time and it makes me freak out. The time checking makes me feel like I am going to be late for something. I do not know why because I have plenty of time during the day. However, I am always feeling rushed from place to place, looking at my phone every couple of minutes. That being said I will try the planning idea and hopefully it works.

  33. I am a really big procrastinator and I have always hated waiting to the last minute to do an assignment. I was intrigued by this video because Lauren was the same way, however she was able to change her ways and become more productive. I plan on utilizing the resources at the Student Success Center in order to plan out my time more effectively. Lauren’s video has encouraged me to get more organized and to make better more responsible decisions about my time management.

  34. I’d be lying if I said that I was great at time management. Typically, I end up waiting until the last minute to do things, while still feeling like I have no free time. Recently, I have been trying to be more organized with my schoolwork and time management with a small weekly planner that I have been putting everything into. So far, it has helped me know when is a good time to start working on something, but I don’t always listen to myself, and sometimes things still wait until the last possible moment.

  35. This video speaks volumes to how most people go about living their everyday life. Especially in a society where people seem to be going non-stop; due to jobs, family, friends, and etcetera. The video explained perfectly how we as a society should view time and how we should be managing it. Personally, I know I have been a poor manager of time, so this is eye-opening and inspiring for me to really start planning my schedule more accordingly so I can achieve a more comfortable style of living.

  36. Today, time is said to be eternal. A discussion that was brought up this week when I engaged myself with the listening project was that, time flies and never returns. If you waste time, it will waste you. Misunderstanding time management could control the way you live. Lauren brought up an interesting point about how when you’re doing things you enjoy, it’s hard to focus because you have all these other assignments and homework that needs to be finished so it takes away from the enjoyment of the activity. I could relate to this because yesterday, I had pushed off much of my homework so that I could play recreational basketball. Yet, it was hard to enjoy because there is a lot of thinking going on in my head at the time. Another thing, is that it takes away from the quality of life.

  37. I like how Lauren connected normal relationships with a relationship with time. A few days ago I constantly found myself frantically getting to class or just rushing in general, but after practicing my time management skills and prioritizing my tasks, I found myself with a lot more free time to relax. I believe that if i truly follow Lauren’s advice, I will be able to reach a more comfortable way of living.

  38. I thought this video was awesome. It’s so true and relatable and even though a lot of people try not to procrastinate so that they don’t end up having to do something more important when they could be relaxing or having fun, it’s a great reminder. Everyone needs to be reminded of something every once in a while and a short video like this is super beneficial.

  39. I never realized that I even had a relationship with time until I watched this video. It’s true that if you can manage your relationship with time then your life will become a lot more enjoyable. There really is nothing better than being ahead of your game and dedicating your time to yourself.

  40. My friends all refer to me as the “late friend.” My family jokes that being late is something that just runs in the family. Time controlling me is easily something to goof about, but in reality its not very funny at all. I don’t enjoy doing things at the last minute, or rushing all the time, or just always being late for things in general. And it is hard to enjoy things when you’re not living in the present. “Always late” is not a quality in myself that I like having, and this video made me realize that I want to change my relationship with time. I want to control it, not the other way around.

  41. Throughout this past year, I have noticed many days where I feel as if days drag on, slowly watching as each hour passes. I have also noticed days where I feel as if time has flown by because of everything I was able to accomplish. I have observed by not managing my time and feeling rushed to go to classes and needing to complete assignments quickly throughout the day, ultimately makes the day go by slower. If I go into each day and week managing my time and ready to begin, knowing exactly what is expected of me, I feel as if the days and weeks goes smoothly and as predicted.

  42. Living in a rush without an agenda is stressful and chaotic but also easily preventable. Making a schedule and following it is a change that requires a slow transition. Time can easily slip through our hands if we do not manage it well and waste it either doing unnecessary things (such as obsessively checking social media) or stressing about how little time we have! If we feel in charge of our relationship with time, we can be way more productive, happy, accomplished, and relieved. This seems unnecessary to a lot of people but it is very rewarding when we realize how efficient and relaxed we can actually be, even on a really hectic day.

  43. As Dr. Pappas has mentioned before, this relationship has become very prevalent since I have been in college. In high school, I would occasionally be late to things or classes, and it really bothered me, even when I was late because of an appointment. Being in college, I arrive early to classes but my relationship with time and school work could use some improvement. Not with tests, but with assignments, I usually wait until the day before it is due to complete it. I hate doing this because it really stresses me out and I have a really hard time focusing. I need management between my time and school work. I tend to leave enough time to get ready in the morning, and not rush for that. It’s like I only struggle with time when it’s for school.

  44. I have always known that I am a procrastinator. However I have been working on my relationship with time over the past few weeks and it has benefited my life greatly. I used a lot of the skills that Lauren suggested such as making dates with time so you are able to live in the moment. Using right now as an example, I am finishing this assignment early so I am able to open up time for other things I enjoy doing later this week.

  45. This video is so relatable. If you aren’t in control of your relationship with time, it is definitely controlling you. I especially notice this when I procrastinate on my assignments. When I know I have a deadline coming up, I spend a lot of time stressing about having to finish everything by then and checking the clock to see how much longer I have. This in turn stresses me out even more because I waste time tracking the time. Staying organized and in control of time is so much more rewarding.

  46. This is so true because I used to never focus on the now but would always dwell on the past or present. However, this year I started to take control of the time I had and began planning things out gave myself an adequate about of time to get things done. Since then I have seen an improvement in not only my grades, but my overall happiness. I am no longer worried that about things in the future because I give myself enough time to accomplish everything I need to, which helps me not stress as much. Time management really is helpful because I no longer feel like I’m controlled by time, instead I feel like I have more control over how to properly use my time. It is so much better to live in the present that way you can actually enjoy your life.

  47. This video is helpful because I find myself rushed for time all the time. I never thought about actually having a relationship with time itself. I have realized I can’t fully focus on things because I always feel rushed. I am hoping I can figure out things that will work for me to help balance my time.

  48. No matter how much we want it to, time never stops. Based on this fact, it is important to own time and be in control. Running late is never a good feeling, and it is the cause of accidents such as spilled coffee and reckless driving. When you are in control of time, you have control of your life.

  49. I was always living in the future. I was always looking forward to the next holiday or vacation. Always planning what my future is going to look like when in reality I have no clue what is going to happen. When one of my family members pasted away it made me start living in the now, because I realized I don’t have time to waste. You never know how much time you have left, so make the most of it.

  50. I believe that society’s obsession with time causes there to be a lot of stress when it comes to getting tasks done. People feel that they constantly need to be doing something. They don’t set aside time to relax and enjoy themselves. I think it’s important to take a step back from the chaos of life every once in a while.

  51. This issue is extremely relevant amongst most college students and I can definitely relate. I think this is probably a major contributor to anxiety in myself. That feeling of constantly being stuck worrying about the future or worrying about the past, it can drive me crazy, but it’s stupid because if I could just stop and focus on the present/ manage my time/ get tasks done as soon as I have time it would reduce (if not eliminate) all this worrying and anxiety. Putting things off is so tempting, but does not pay off and I’ve already noticed that by removing myself from my iphone (and switching to a simple flip phone) my productivity has already increased allowing me to stress less and enjoy the present more.

  52. This video brings to light an interesting concept, and made me question my own relationship with time, and if it’s detrimental to me. I’m constantly worried about what I’ve gotten done in the day, and what I still have to do, and ironically I leave no time to dwell in the present, to take in my surroundings and just be. This is why the 15-20 minute reflections that I’ve instituted in my life are beneficial to me, they allow me to take a moment to not be worried about time, but to just think, relax, and reflect.

  53. I feel like I am always chasing time and thinking about what I have to do next. When I wake up in the morning I always make a list of things I have to do that day and it stresses me out making me not want to get up and get it done. This video is right because if I wrote out all the things I had to do and plan them out instead of having a disorganized jumble of things I have to get done in my head, I wouldn’t be running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off and I would be able to manage my time more efficiently.

  54. Having a relationship with time is extremely important because as Lauren said in the video you cannot allow time to control you. Living in the past is not a healthy way to live because it is stressful to constantly be worrying about what is next or something you forgot to do. This video emphasized planning your weekly or daily schedule in order to be able to get ahead on your work as well as to have the opportunity to live in the present. Time is crucial and should not be wasted, planning the use of your time wisely is the smart and efficient way to go.

  55. I’m always worrying about my future and try to plan ahead but it always leads to anxiety. I need to learn how to live in the moment and not stress about the future. I actually enjoyed the self reflections that we had to do because it gave me time to sit and think and reflect on my life. It’s important to manage your time wisely to make your life much easier.

  56. Even before watching this I was aware that I had a strong relationship with time, which I have never been proud of. I am always running late to things and rushing constantly throughout the day. However, one thing I didnt think about and this video pointed out was the fact that depending on time so much restricts me from being able to fully enjoy some of my favorite things. I have to cut down on my down/chill time and sometimes completely cut it out because I am behind on so much.

  57. I am awful with time management. Which is something I am aware I need to work on. I just take my time on things even when I should be in a rush. With being so terrible with my time management I realize it does take away from good moments I could be enjoying rather than stressing.

  58. This video made me realize that I am someone who is also always running around to try to make it to events on time. I have been aware of this fact and have hated how stressed out running around makes me so I need to prioritize my schedule and make sure I am getting things done before I need to. I think this will alleviate much stress in my life.

  59. I feel that most of the conversations we have as a class are about technology and how it controls us. But I think she makes a really good point in saying a lot of us let time control us. After watching this video, I thought about how much time influences my life. Due dates, class times, bus schedules, etc. So much of my life revolves around a clock, and I for one can say with absolute certainty that I am someone controlled by time. Its hard not to be when society places such a high value on being punctual and efficient. After all, time is a resource.

  60. I definitely agree that we need to control time in our life. I know that I procrastinate and that I am late on certain things. I agree that I need to live in the present and plan for the future. Planning it out really helps because then you get things done early and get to enjoy your life and you get to do the things you really want to do! I really liked this video a lot because it helps me understand how to control my life in a positive way.

  61. This video was very helpful because I too often find myself rushing or trying to catch up with my life and I agree that it is not the best way to live. Having dates set up to get ahead of your assignments would be a great way to combat this urge to always feel rushed and will cause you to actually have time to enjoy yourself.

  62. This video is so true and I find myself way to often feeling like there is not enough time in the day to get everything done that i would like to. I always try to get the most important things done first so i won’t have to worry about them when I’m trying to enjoy free time. To me, I don’t have free time unless everything I need to get done is done; it is truly the best feeling in the world to get things out of the way.

  63. I can relate to this video so much! I constantly find myself stressing about getting things done in a timely manner. Even when I am doing something I enjoy, such as hang out with friends, I always have a thought in the back of my head about what else I could be spending my time on. In doing so, I am taking away from the satisfactions of being with friends to stress about what else I have to do.

  64. I never really thought about time as something we have a relationship with. I really liked that aspect of the video. I remember in the beginning of this class, we had that four page paper we had to do. It stressed me out so much. I would be doing fun things with my friends and I wasn’t really enjoying that time, because I kept feeling guilty that I was’t working on my paper. Now, I try to get all of my homework done with before the weekend, so I can really enjoy my time with my friends.

  65. I always thought this how everyone lived. Everyone was rushing, with not enough time to everything they had too. This made think of all the wasted time that I could be doing things I need to do, but instead I am not really doing anything at all. I want to get a hold and actually live my life not have time live it for me.
